The Implementation and Use of Facial Recognition: An IACSP White Paper

Facial recognition technology is no longer a futuristic concept. It is a practical operational tool, but one surrounded by legal, ethical, technical, and human risk. This presentation takes casino surveillance leaders on a journey from the basic mechanics of FRT through its history, legal evolution, public concerns, casino-specific use cases, and responsible deployment controls.

The session will explore what FRT is, what it is not, why people fear it, how the law is evolving, and how casinos can think sensibly about deployment. It will challenge the audience to move beyond vendor promises and superficial objections alike, and instead ask the questions that actually matter: What problem are we trying to solve? Is FRT the right tool? What are its limits? Who reviews the alerts? What evidence is needed before action is taken? How do we govern the system after it goes live?

The message is simple: facial recognition can be valuable, but only when it is understood, constrained, documented, reviewed, and used by trained professionals who know that an alert is not a decision.
