Session Casino Math: Know Your Numbers
Description

Domain I: Surveillance Tradecraft

This presentation will cover the basics of Casino Math and how it relates to Surveillance
investigations. We will cover terms like house edge, theoretical win, hold percentage, etc. and
why it is important for investigators to know these terms and how they are calculated.
Investigators should be aware of these formulas so that they can effectively audit table games,
slots, and player development. Table games and slots performance as well as individual players’
worth are determined exclusively by the numbers in these ratings – Surveillance must be able to
calculate and reverse engineer these numbers to verify the validity of ratings. These numbers
influence decisions up to the executive level and must be accurate. None other than the
Surveillance department can verify beyond doubt that what is being documented is correct. The
numbers can even prove marketing or table games personnel scams or errors.
